Antonio Baici worked at the Department of Biochemistry as Titular Professor from 1996 until 2011. He retired in April 2011.
He investigated mechanisms of enzyme inhibition using kinetic methods. Emphasis was placed on the control of pathological proteolysis.
Antonio Baici studied Chemistry and gained his PhD at the University of Trieste in Italy. He became familiar with biochemistry, particularly enzymology, while working at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Before joining the Department of Biochemistry he headed a research group at the University Hospital in Zurich and dealt with the enzymatic destruction of connective tissue in rheumatic diseases and tumor invasion.
