Julia Fritz-Steuber

Julia Fritz-Steuber is Full Professor of Cellular Microbiology at the Department of Microbiology of the University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart/ Germany) since August 2009.

Julia Fritz-Steuber has been an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biochemistry between 2004 and 2009.

Her research focuses on the redox-driven sodium pumps; e.g. the enzymes of the complex I family of the respiratory chain and the multisubunit, membrane-bound NADH dehydrogenases from pathogenic bacteria. The aim of her research is to understand the molecular functionality of redox-driven sodium pumps.

Julia Fritz-Steuber received her diploma in Biology from the University of Konstanz, Germany in 1991. During her PhD thesis, she worked at the Wageningen Agricultural University in the Netherlands. She obtained her PhD in Bioinorganic Chemistry and Microbiology at the University of Konstanz in 1996. After two postdoctoral years with Prof. Peter Dimroth at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Julia Fritz-Steuber became group leader at the Institute of Microbiology and received a young investigators grant from the ETH. In 2002, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) granted her a Marie Heim-Vögtlin subsidy and in 2004 an SNF Professorship.
